Redwood Systems appoints new Senior Vice President of Technology

Date Announced: 14 Sep 2011

Redwood Systems has appointed Bruce Pelton as Senior Vice President of Technology. Pelton's new role will include expanding the energy efficiency and building intelligence capabilities of the company's lighting platform.

Pelton comes to Redwood Systems from Tyco Electronics Lighting, where he was Chief Technology Officer, and helped develop an end-to-end solid-state lighting (SSL) system that allows fixture manufactures to enter the SSL market with or without an internal engineer.

In addition to this achievement, Pelton holds 16 US and Canadian patents in the field of illumination. He has served as a member of the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE), the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IESNA) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).

Redwood Systems made headlines early in the summer when it announced a strategic investment from Mutsui & Co. Global Investment Inc.

Prior to Tyco, Pelton was associate director of the California Lighting Technology Center at the University of California Davis, where he oversaw the engineering function, directed lighting research, and worked with regulators, utilities and industry on standards development. He also collaborated with the NECA/IBEW to develop training programs on advanced lighting controls for electrical contractors.

Pelton holds 16 issued US and Canadian patents in the field of illumination and has advised companies such as Lumatech, Lumenyte, Ushio, Westinghouse, Access, OptiLED and Samsung. His industry credentials include serving as a senior member of the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE), the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IESNA), and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).

“Redwood Systems is on the cutting edge of the intelligent lighting industry, and joining the team at this time is incredibly exciting,” said Pelton. “Given their standing as leaders in the market, along with the impressive customer momentum they continue to build, Redwood has the unique opportunity to lead the march towards improving building performance through lighting and controls.
