Valeo introduces novel automotive lighting concepts with LEDs

Hybrid xenon-LED headlamps and light-guides for rear lighting are among the technologies developed by French automotive supplier Valeo.
Renault Egeus concept car Valeo, a France-based industrial group and one of the world's top automotive suppliers, has more than a decade of experience in developing LED-based lighting technologies. Among its newer innovations are methods of creating a homogenous appearance for rear lighting, and a combined xenon-LED approach to front lighting.

For rear lighting, Valeo has developed MicroOptics technology, which replaces standard optics (such as lens or reflectors) with a light-guide. "LEDs are a point source, and from a style point of view we want to move away from being able to see the individual pixels, and have something more homogenous," says Jean-Paul Charret, core engineering director with Valeo Lighting Systems.
