The night's celebration aboard the Midway culminated in the recognition of 17 products and a team whose expertise was deserving of Illumineer of the Year honors.

SAN DIEGO, CA — Breaking news: LEDs Magazine has announced the winners at the sixth annual Sapphire Awards, which took place this evening aboard the Midway, a former in-service aircraft carrier turned military history museum. As guests mingled aboard the flight deck and perused the exhibits, anticipation was in the air to hear which products and individuals would be honored with a Sapphire Award trophy.

After cocktails and networking, LED & Lighting Network vice president and publisher Steve Beyer took the stage with chief editor Maury Wright to welcome the crowd, and extend his appreciation for the "commitment to technological excellence that this industry continues to improve and grow," as well as the support of the LED and solid-state lighting (SSL) community for its support of the awards program.

Wright took the podium to laud the 56 companies that submitted more than 100 entries, making the judges' work very difficult but also rewarding. “Both myself, and I think the entire judging panel, were excited to see the level of innovation in our entries this year, especially as the industry struggled through a difficult year. I applaud those companies that are still investing heavily in SSL product development and delivering on what I believe is the successful path forward quality of light,” said Wright.

Finally, the LED & Lighting Network team, colleagues from the Strategies in Light advisory board, and industry peers raised their toasts to the following companies for their winning technologies.
