Personnel announcements: Cree, Renaissance LLF, BridgeLux

Cree names John Kurtzweil as Chief Financial Officer Cree has announced that John Kurtzweil will join the company as executive VP and chief financial officer as of September 29. Mr. Kurtzweil brings with him over 25 years of corporate financial management experience, and he served most recently as senior VP and CFO of Cirrus Logic, Inc., a publicly-traded supplier of analog, mixed- signal and digital processing solutions for audio and industrial product applications, based in Austin, Texas.

Renaissance appoints James Pagos as CEO
Renaissance Lighting, a developer of intelligent solid-state lighting systems, has appointed James Pagos to the position of chief executive officer and member of the Board of Directors. Pagos has an extensive track record of successfully growing revenues and profits in large, small and start-up enterprises, and has served on the boards of a number of public and private companies. Jack Rains will remain in the role of president of Renaissance Lighting.

Renaissance Lighting’s evo™ fixtures incorporate the company’s patented Constructive Occlusion® design to eliminate the effects of individual LEDs, creating homogenous and highly uniform light output, including white light of any color temperature. An integrated sensor within the fixture monitors color quality and intensity, automatically correcting for variations.

Most recently, Pagos served as CEO of Vibrant Solutions, a software and services company focused on improving operational performance of telecom companies. Prior to Vibrant Solutions, he was president and CEO of Vectant, Inc., a leading data and e-commerce company, and he enjoyed a 27-year career with AT&T.

LED Lighting Fixtures adds to management team
LED Lighting Fixtures, Inc. (LLF) has announced two key additions to its management team. Paul Pickard has been appointed Vice President, Operations. For the past eight years, Pickard has held various management positions with Acuity Brands, Inc. and most recently served as the Director of New Product Engineering for Lithonia Lighting. Pickard brings 14 years of experience to LLF where he has managed a wide range of responsibilities including engineering, product development, manufacturing and product outsourcing..

Gary Trott joins LLF as Vice President of Product Development. Trott is a 16-year lighting industry veteran, 14 of which were spent with Acuity Brands, Inc. He has held numerous management positions in product development and marketing across multiple product segments.

Neal Hunter, LLF's CEO, stated, "[Paul and Gary's] lighting industry experience will be vital to the Company as we prepare to introduce new LED-based lighting systems with light output equivalent to a 65 watt incandescent lamp or 15 watt compact fluorescent lamp to the market early next year. With these additions, LLF has a proven management team that understands LED technology from the LED chip to the fixture." LLF expects to manufacture its initial fixtures by the first quarter of 2007.

BridgeLux adds to management team
LED chip suppliers BridgeLux has added key personnel to its management team. Dave Bour, named an Agilent Fellow in 2000, is joining as chief scientist at BridgeLux; Ghulam Hasnain joins as a senior scientist; and Gloria Fan, previously with UTStarcom, joins the organization as chief financial officer.

Most recently serving with Applied Materials’ new business development group, Bour was part of Agilent Laboratories in Palo Alto, and has published more than 200 articles and been granted 60 US patents. Hasnain, formerly VP of Advanced Technology with LuxNet, brings over 20 years of experience in optoelectronics and holds several patents. Bour and Hasnain join an R&D team headed by Heng Liu, BridgeLux founder and CTO.
