March 24, 2006
The EuroLED conference, which takes place in Birmingham, UK, on May 16-18, has announced its program of speakers.
The EuroLED event will feature conference presentations on the first two days, followed on Thursday May 18 by a review of recent fact-finding missions to Japan and the US.

Day 1 begins with a review of LED markets and a progress report from LED manufacturers in Europe, the USA and China. The morning session continues with talks on driving, packaging & thermal modelling of HB-LEDs.

In the afternoon, several talks on radiometry, photometry and LED safety are followed by a discussion of new solid-state lighting technologies, including OLEDs, photoluminescence and quasi-crystals.

Day 2 focuses on applications and opens with a talk from Lumileds on selecting the right LEDs, followed by talks from Philips, Advanced LEDs and Orbik covering signage, street lighting and emergency lighting respectively.

The second session tackles such thorny issues as "are LED systems catering to the needs of the lighting specifiers?" and "What architects really want from LEDs", as well as discussing stage & theater lighting and architectural lighting.

The afternoon session focuses on road, rail and aerospace, as well as defense and manufacturing.

Presentations on the third day of the conference will disseminate results from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Global Watch missions to Japan and the USA.

Presentations will discuss how to partner with companies in each of the two companies, and will cover core technologies as well as specific applications such as highway lighting and general displays.
