Three Daktronics LED displays make a big impact near light-rail station

BROOKINGS, S.D. – Meet Minneapolis, Convention and Visitors Association, selected Daktronics (NASDAQ-DAKT) of Brookings, South Dakota, to bring prominent digital displays to their new Minneapolis Visitor Information on Nicollet in direct view of one of the busiest METRO stops in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Three LED displays measuring 3 feet 4 inches high by 9 feet 5 inches long are suspended from the building’s ceiling and are positioned to face outward through the windows of the visitor center. Meet Minneapolis partnered with CenterPoint Energy to create the 5,000-square-foot center within the CenterPoint Energy building, which is located at Nicollet and 5th Street, directly across the street from the Nicollet METRO light rail train station where many visitors and commuters come into downtown Minneapolis.

The new Daktronics signage provides opportunities to promote the center’s three distinct services: Shop: Minneapolis artistic retail, Move: resources for transit, commuting and getting around the city and Find: help with questions about what to do, where to go and how to get the most out of a visit to Minneapolis.

“These new displays make a big statement on one of the liveliest corners in downtown Minneapolis,” said Amy Alegi, senior vice president of destination brand & strategy at Meet Minneapolis. “We wanted to make a splash to help engage visitors and locals, and to help promote everything there is to see and do in Minneapolis. The new Daktronics displays are a powerful tool for us to tie together our promotion of the center and our partners, linking them to our digital and social media strategies.”

The LED displays are used largely for promoting Minneapolis events and activities provided by Meet Minneapolis partners. Each display features 6 millimeter line spacing that provides crisp, clear imagery with wide angle visibility to appeal to people passing by the building and waiting to board the light rail-trains.

“This is a great installation to be associated with as Daktronics was able to provide Meet Minneapolis with an LED solution to promote local events in an almost effortless manner,” said James Roehrl, Daktronics sales representative. “We look forward to seeing these displays impact the community in a positive way for years to come.”

Included in the installation, Daktronics is providing two years of consultation for content management and content scheduling.

Daktronics LED video and messaging display technology offers a long lifetime with consistent, industry-leading performance and low power consumption, providing value and excitement for years to come.
