BROOKINGS, S.D. – Polk County and Global Spectrum have selected Daktronics (NASDAQ-DAKT) of Brookings, South Dakota, to design, manufacture and install a new centerhung LED video display configuration featuring five displays to enhance the overall fan experience for events at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, Iowa.
“Technology has evolved so much in the past 10 years that Wells Fargo Arena is ready for some significant upgrades to the fan experience,” said Global Spectrum’s Chris Connolly, general manager of the Iowa Events Center. “We appreciate the Polk County Board of Supervisor’s assistance in getting these projects completed, which will enhance the experience for fans who attend events at Wells Fargo Arena while reducing our energy consumption.”
The rectangular-shaped LED video display configuration features two large side-facing displays, two end-facing displays and an outward-facing ring display along the bottom perimeter. Both side-facing displays will measure approximately 15.5 feet high by 28 feet wide and both end-facing displays will measure approximately 15.5 feet high by 15.5 feet wide. All four of these displays will feature a tight 6 millimeter line spacing to provide high resolution video with excellent image clarity and contrast with wide angle visibility.
These displays feature variable content zoning which allows them to show one large image or they can be divided into multiple windows to show a variety of live video, instant replays, game scores, statistics, graphics, animations and sponsorship messages.
The bottom ring display will feature a 10 millimeter line spacing and measure approximately 2 feet high by 78 feet in diameter. This LED video display offers the opportunity to show supplemental content in conjunction with the main video displays as well as showing additional scoring and statistical information, graphics and animations, and sponsorship messages throughout events.
At the corners of the centerhung, in between the main displays, Daktronics will be installing LED freeform elements for accent lighting.
Outside of the facility, three new marquee displays will upgrade the existing displays to welcome people to the arena. These displays will each feature 10 millimeter line spacing and measure approximately 5 feet high by 18 feet wide. They will be used to show ticket information, upcoming events and sponsorship messages.
“Daktronics is excited to be partnering with Polk County and Global Spectrum on this exciting upgrade for Wells Fargo Arena,” said Daktronics sales representative Matt Warnke. “The new centerhung will provide a large, high-definition canvas for the facility to put on a show, engage their fans and provide a great way to promote their sponsors. These displays will add to an already great facility and we look forward to seeing them turned on for the first time.”
Daktronics LED video display technology offers a long lifetime with consistent, industry-leading performance and low power consumption, providing value and excitement for years to come.
