Daktronics upgrades University of Houston stadium with largest LED video display in college baseball

April 22, 2015
BROOKINGS, S.D. – The Houston Baseball experience is receiving an upgrade from Daktronics (NASDAQ-DAKT) of Brookings, South Dakota, as the company will design, manufacture and install the largest LED video display in college baseball at Cougar Field on campus at the University of Houston in Houston, Texas.

“We are excited to partner with Daktronics as one of the industry's leaders in video board technology,” said University of Houston senior associate athletics director for external relations Jeramiah Dickey. “Our goal is to continue to enhance our audiovisual capabilities as it becomes increasingly more important to the student-athlete and fan experience. We are very appreciative of the commitment our Coaches Committee members have made to Houston Baseball and its continued success on and off the field."

The new outfield LED video display will measure roughly 27.5 feet high by more than 55 feet wide to provide more than 1,500 square feet of space for live video, instant replays, statistics and scoring information, graphics and animations, and sponsor messages. The display features a 15HD pixel layout for crisp, clear imagery with wide angle viewing for a great view from every seat at the ballpark.

The LED video display incorporates variable content zoning to provide one large image across the entire display or to create any number of smaller windows to show a variety of content all at the same time. Being an outdoor display, it includes Daktronics industry-leading environmental protection.

“The addition of Sanders-Gutierrez Scoreboard at Cougar Field will immediately elevate the game-day experience for our fans and players to the highest level,” said Todd Whitting, Houston Baseball head coach. “The completion of this project will keep us on track in regards to the ongoing master plan to upgrade Cougar Field. We are very grateful for the generosity of Don Sanders, Joe Gutierrez, The Houston Cougar Foundation, John Clarke, Roy Barrett and members of the Baseball Coaches Committee for their support of this project.”

Paired with Daktronics powerful Show Control System, this installation will provide fans a next-level live game-day experience. This industry-leading control system provides a combination of display control software, world-class video processing, data integration and playback hardware that forms a user-friendly production solution. “We’re excited and grateful for the opportunity given to us by the University of Houston,” said Daktronics sales representative Dan Fjeldheim. “Bringing this technology to the baseball field will give Cougars fans another level of excitement and enthusiasm at every game. We can’t wait to see the atmosphere once the installation is complete.”

Daktronics LED video and messaging display technology offers a long lifetime with consistent, industry-leading performance and low power consumption, providing value and excitement for years to come.
