The PORTAL Column from HessAmerica garnered its fourth award in 2018 with its selection in Architectural Product Magazine’s eighth annual Product Innovation Awards (PIA).The PORTAL Column was selected for the Outdoor/Indoor category by a panel of sixteen judges consisting of architects, interior designers, lighting consultants, and veteran AEC writers based on innovative design, performance, and technological advances. The illuminating column’s slender simplicity and architectural design elements generated many positive comments from the expert panel.PORTAL is an architecturally styled column in 8’ or 10’ heights. Its striking design accents public and private spaces while providing flexible lighting options ranging from a single source for general illumination from its unique circular opening, to the addition of optional low-level marker lights. The marker lights, grouped in clusters of three, may be integrated on one or both sides of the column’s narrow sides for subtle highlighting or added pathway illumination. The PORTAL product family includes complementary bollards for low-level illumination and an exterior rated EXIT bollard.Additional 2018 accolades for PORTAL included the LightFair Best of Category Innovation Award; inclusion in the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES) Annual Progress Report; and selection in Architectural SSL magazine’s eighth annual Product Innovation Awards.
