Thorn Lighting Announces Double Win for Sustainability and Energy Savings

Dec. 22, 2022
Datateam Business Media's Energy Saving Awards recognized Plurio LED with NightTune technology to aid in preserving dark skies alongside consuming less energy.

On the 1st of December 2022, Thorn Lighting, a manufacturer, and supplier of dependable, efficient, and high-quality lighting solutions, was delighted to win Lighting Product of the Year for its Plurio LED with NightTune technology at the inaugural Energy Saving Awards.

New to the awards scene, The Energy Saving Awards is organised by leading publications Plumbing, Heating & Air Movement News (PHAM News) and Energy in Buildings & Industry (EiBI), part of Datateam Business Media. Voted for by industry professionals, the awards were created to acknowledge the important work achieved by manufacturers, installers, contractors, suppliers and organisations to reduce carbon emissions and become more energy efficient.

This latest success adds to the recognition of the manufacturer's sustainability work, namely the NightTune technology. On the 1st of October, as a result of this solution and other dark sky initiatives and projects – Thorn Lighting was recognised by the International Dark-Sky Association (IDA) and named winner of this year's Lighting Design and Technical Innovation Award.

NightTune technology automatically adjusts the level of light emitted by the light fitting and the colour temperature to suit the time of night - reducing waste, energy, and the negative impact of light on our surrounding environment.

According to the IDA's website, 'This award is given to individuals, organisations, or businesses that - through progressive design, construction, technological innovation, and entrepreneurship - support IDA and its mission to preserve night skies by promoting quality outdoor nighttime lighting.'

When announcing the 2022 winners on social media, the IDA's Executive Director, Ruskin Hartley, said, "These remarkable individuals are the force behind the global #darkskymovement as they advance policy solutions to restore the nighttime environment and protect communities and wildlife from light pollution."
