Once Innovations designs LED lighting technology to enhance animal welfare in sow raising application

Sept. 19, 2016
PLYMOUTH, MN – Once, Inc. (Once®) animal-centric lighting systems were one of the many highlights at the brand new, next generation swine facility open house hosted by New Fashion Pork and Hanor Farms on September 8th. The Thorp, WI farm is a first of its kind in the U.S. It features Once® lighting, open pen gestation, electronic feed stations, freedom stalls and more.

“When using our swine specific Dim-to-Calm™ technology we’re adjusting the spectral output to simulate sunrise and sunset,” explains Zdenko Grajcar, Founder & CEO at Once®. “We’re enhancing the welfare of an animal, while influencing desirable physiological and biological responses which results in increased production, reduced stress and overall calmer animals.”

“We did not cut any corners when building this new sow complex. Even at the start of the project our team was committed to making it a state-of-the-art facility,” says Kyle Coble, Senior Manager of Production Strategies at New Fashion Pork. “Installing Once® LED lighting systems provided us with an opportunity to use a type of light that is not only durable, but one that enhances the environment of a breeding herd, while benefiting those on the production staff.”

As technology in agricultural advances, ONCE® continues to lead the industry with their animal-centric systems and advanced technology.
