Light Bites: What’s happening in industry events – Nov. 22, 2023

Nov. 22, 2023
LEDs Magazine rounds up online learning and event speaking opportunities addressing various future-forward lighting industry topics.

Although the end of 2023 is fast approaching, plenty of opportunities for industry engagement and education remain, with two upcoming online events on the docket in December, and a call for presentations for a 2024 annual conference.

LpS Digital Summit

The annual LED professional Summit, organized by Luger Research e.U., has gone digital and will live-stream on Dec. 7, 2023. Registration for the three-hour online event is free. The theme for this year’s event is “Exploring Cross-Disciplinary Lighting Innovations.”

Keynotes include Elena Scaroni, LightingEurope; Lawrence Lin, Lighting Recipe Studio Co., Ltd.; Dirk Vanderhaegen, Lumileds; and Xavier Denis, Nichia. Each speaker will present key trends in lighting and then discuss as a panel with moderator Siegfried Luger, along with audience participation. The event will conclude with the LpS Digital Awards, which remain open for submissions until Nov. 30, 2023. Event organizers previously announced that the awards will be evaluated and selected based on innovation, market dynamics, and technological advancement criteria by “AI Judges.” Luger Research has not publicly identified the software developer for the LpS Digital Awards.

PG&E Presents: Lighting and Smart, Grid-Integrated Buildings

Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) routinely offers free online continuing education on a range of topics, presented by subject-matter experts in lighting and building electrification. On Dec. 14, 2023, PG&E’s lighting program coordinator Linda Sanford will host Clifton Stanley Lemon, Clifton Lemon Associates; Karen Herter, Herter Energy Research Solutions; Joe Dung, Total Solutions and Sixteen5Hundred; David Wilds Patton, David Wilds Patton Lighting Design; and Charles Knuffke, Legrand. The speakers will summarize the history of commercial and residential building controls integration and discuss the relationship between smart buildings and the energy grid, identifying opportunities for systems integration to achieve improved energy resilience and meet decarbonization goals.

IES Annual Conference

The Illuminating Engineering Society (IES) has opened a call for presentations for its 2024 annual conference, which will be held in New York City from Aug. 15–17. Submissions are being accepted for pre-conference workshops and conference sessions only at this time. Technical paper, technical presentation, and poster submissions will open in March 2024.

Speaker sessions will run 60 minutes, and can be presented in lecture, roundtable, or interactive format, with about 15 minutes dedicated to the question and answer period. Accepted speakers will receive access to the full conference. Workshops may run between 3 and 6 hours to explore a topic in depth with the potential for attendees to gain hands-on experience with products or materials. Accepted workshop speakers will also receive full conference access. Applications will be accepted until Jan. 10, 2024 for these presentations.

Visit the IES conference portal for details and to submit proposals.
