Lumileds LEDs for backlights wins award

Lumileds' Luxeon LED array product for LCD backlights has received the Display Material/Component of the Year Silver Award in the 2004 SID/Information Display magazine competition.

The array, consisting of red, green and blue side-emitting Luxeon LEDs, contains advances including a perpendicular LED beam pattern that makes the LED emission readily available for mixing to create the white light - consistent over time and temperature - necessary for backlight use. Consistent brightness and color uniformity is achieved through exclusive intelligent binning.

"The use of high-power LEDs in backlights offers significant advantages ranging from never-before-possible color reproduction to dynamic color point control and mercury
