DesignLab selects non-metallic enclosures to meet the need for underground lighting control panels

Feb. 24, 2017
THE SITUATION:
Designlab has been a principle provider of quality lighting systems and products throughout the Midwest for 30 years. Over the years, they have introduced new products and services, one of which is a panel shop for lighting controls. For the panel shop to be successful, DesignLab knew they needed to find the best enclosures product to survive in a harsh environmental condition with fluctuating temperatures and moisture in the ground.

THE CHALLENGE:
To select the proper enclosure, DesignLab relied on their local electrical representative, McDonald Associates, Inc., in Chicago, Illinois, for their expertise.

Why?

McDonald Associates, Inc., has a long history of representing quality manufacturers whose products withstand the test of time, yet the company is always on the lookout for new products to meet unique customer requirements.

When DesignLab approached McDonald Associates, the team immediately suggested Stahlin Non-Metallic Enclosures— because of the company’s long history of building high quality fiberglass enclosures. McDonald Associates was also confident that Stahlin enclosures would withstand harsh underground conditions.

After a thorough review of the product lines---DesignLab selected Stahlin’s enclosures for the panel shop work.

THE ANSWER TO THE CHALLENGE:
Today, DesignLab regularly builds 508A electrical control panels with Stahlin enclosures to run LED and architectural lighting systems. Some of the important enclosure projects DesignLab has used Stahlin enclosures for include: The city of Chicago LED “LIGHTSCAPE” music show located downtown on State street, the 49ers stadium's playing field LED lighting arrays; along with lighting control footbridges and solar arrays.

THE RESULTS:
Larry Schoeneman, President of DesignLab stated: “We have been very pleased with the performance of Stahlin’s enclosures for our in-ground lighting systems. The enclosures have held up even beyond our initial requirements as Stahlin’s products protect the controls even when there is water around the boxes from occasional storm drain runoff----something we did not initially specify when we made our selection.”

“Stahlin Non-Metallic Enclosures also has impressed me because they were willing to invest in our business by training our electrical design engineer at the Belding Michigan plant on how to specify the right enclosure material for a variety of applications, at no cost to us. This training has helped our engineer become even more valuable to our customers,” continued Larry Schoeneman. “We are lucky to have a partner like Stahlin, that produces a high quality product line and is willing to invest in our company to help us grow.”
