LEDs Magazine opens BrightStar Awards for 2024 submissions (UPDATED)

Dec. 1, 2023
Early Bird entries for the LED and SSL innovation program will close on Dec. 29, with final submissions due on Jan. 26, 2024.

LEDs Magazine is accepting submissions for its third annual BrightStar Awards program as of Dec. 1, 2023.

The yearly program recognizes LED-based technology developments across a range of applications, including architectural, decorative, facade, entertainment, and commercial & industrial lighting; lighting designed to support human health and wellbeing; LED-based disinfection technologies; specialty applications in displays, automotive, and medical uses; connected lighting systems and controls; and horticultural products and systems that support controlled environment agriculture operations. Find information on product examples by category on the BrightStar Awards portal.

"As we have each year, LEDs Magazine staff and invited industry experts will review all final submissions for their performance, reliability, efficiency, ease of integration or use, and innovation in materials or combination of technologies for upgraded functionality," said LEDs Magazine editor-in-chief Carrie Meadows.

Companies whose entries receive a score of 3.5 to 5 stars (on a scale of 0–5 stars) will receive an engraved award and opportunities to promote their brand and technological leadership throughout the year with the BrightStar Awards logo. Honorees will be highlighted in a 2024 issue of LEDs Magazine, on its website and social media, and in its newsletters.

BrightStar Awards jurors will evaluate submissions based on the attached materials, considering the following (may not represent a full list of judging criteria):

  • Intended application — a general use case or specialty product-development or end-user lighting application
  • How described features serve the intended application(s)
  • Specifications — Do they meet a baseline of what is broadly available or demonstrate notable improvement in performance (e.g., optical, thermal, color quality, controllability, interoperability with other vendor products, etc.) over typical offerings?
  • Third-party test results and/or energy efficiency, wellbeing, or environmental stewardship standards compliance or certifications

Companies that have significantly upgraded an existing product or launched a new product that will be commercially available between May 1, 2023 and May 1, 2024 are eligible to submit entries. Multiple individual products can be submitted by the same company; an entire family of related products may be submitted as a single entry. Manufacturers need not be based in the United States to be eligible.

BrightStar Awards Honorees will be notified via email in May 2024 with an announcement under embargo until LEDs Magazine runs its primary coverage. All awards will be shipped direct to a company contact.
