LEDs Magazine 40 Under 40 Profile: Serge Gountas

July 24, 2020
Serge Gountas is responsible for overseeing large entertainment lighting installations that rely upon the special effects enabled by LEDs.

One of the early-adoption applications for high-brightness LEDs was in entertainment and theatrical applications where the combination of phosphor-converted white LEDs, monochromatic color LEDs, and dynamic control capability brought all-new special effects potential to creative minds.

Serge Gountas oversees the fabrication and implementation of such entertainment sets for applications ranging from theater to television to cruise ships to architectural/landmark lighting. Such dynamic lighting is used to tell or support the story at hand and enhance the viewer experience.

Gountas attended Ithaca College, studying theatre production, and the University of North Carolina School of the Arts in stage automation. Showman clients include all of the major networks, Broadway productions, museums, and more.

His nominator said of Gountas, “Serge is one of the brightest and best fabricators I’ve met in my career. With his long-term track record and success, this is a guy that the industry should definitely be looking at as an innovator and leader. Our partnership has been amazing as we are constantly learning from each other on how to innovate and be the best in the LED industry.”
