Honeywell supplies LED exterior lights for Boeing 7E7 Dreamliner

Dec. 6, 2004
Boeing has selected Honeywell's new Astreon LED systems for flight-critical exterior lighting on the new 7E7 Dreamliner aircraft.
Honeywell's Astreon lights, which use red and green LEDs for wingtip position lighting, are to be used on Boeing's new 7E7 Dreamliner aircraft.

This is the fourth 7E7 system that Boeing has awarded to Honeywell, including the navigation package and the flight control electronics for the aircraft. Together, the systems represent a potential total program value in excess of $2.6 billion for Honeywell over the life of the 7E7 program.

"LEDs have dramatically longer lives than traditional lights, so Astreon lights will provide airlines a welcome reduction in operating costs," said Frank Daly, president of Honeywell's Air Transport Systems.

Honeywell's Astreon products have been tested to 20 times greater life than traditional lights and carry extended warranties. The contract provides for incorporation of Astreon anti-collision and navigation lighting systems on all 7E7 aircraft.
