With a directive for a green approach from the dealership owner, Adam Lee, the case study emphasized the architect’s plan of designing the project to make it as environmentally responsible and as community friendly as possible.

The architect, Frank Cushing of F.A. Cushing, Inc. initially considered the use of a metal-halide light source to meet the desired light levels required to illuminate the product display areas. However, upon reviewing the available LED options, he realized the uniformity and distribution delivered by LED sources would be superior, and the brighter, higher Kelvin lighting from LEDs made the light levels comparable to that of HID sources. Both Spaulding Lighting and Architectural Area Lighting fixtures were chosen for the project.

The Cimarron LED area light from Spaulding, which is now available in four lumen packages from 5K to 20K, was employed at the 15,000 lm level at this site. Installed at 26-ft height, this luminaire uses 210W of power and features a color temperature of 5000K. The Providence LED luminaire from AAL provides a front row streetscape that matches the site lighting at the Municipal Center in Topsham for consistency in the community’s overall vision for their Main Street. The luminaire features an output of 4550 lm, uses 124W of power and features a color temperature of 5100K.

The new case study is available for download from the Spaulding Lighting website.
