Care-A-Lot Pet Supply, a Virginia pet retailer, installed LED and fluorescent lighting fixtures from Acuity Brands to light merchandise optimally, provide exterior safety, and save energy. The lighting and control products, which include products Lithonia Lighting, Winona Lighting, Gotham, and Sensor Switch, are expected to save $5000 a year in energy costs when compared to high intensity discharge (HID) and fluorescent lamps.
The project was handled by lighting-design firm PM&E Design Group in partnership with manufacturers' representative Resource Lighting. The duo counseled Care-A-Lot in the selection of Acuity Brand products to light the new facility, which features 30 foot-high ceilings and many glass cases that brought up glare issues.
“We wanted to work with one lighting manufacturer for the new Care-A-Lot store,” said Jake Stevens, a project leader for Resource Lighting who helped design the lighting solution. “Acuity Brands was the perfect partner because it delivers a wide range of indoor and outdoor lighting products, very high quality fixtures, as well as beautiful, decorative fixtures.”
The products used were I-BEAM fluorescent highbays from Lithonia Lighting, which were placed throughout the sales floor. RT5 volumetric recessed lighting fixtures from Lithonia Lighting along with Sensor Switch ceiling and wall controls were used in kennel rooms, washrooms, break rooms, offices, hallways, restrooms, and veterinary exam rooms. Gotham EVO LED downlights, and recessed DoM series LED luminaires from Lithonia Lighting, which were used to minimize glare on aquarium tanks.
For the parking lot and exterior, ALX LED luminaires by Lithonia Lighting were used to help eliminate light pollution in the nearby residential area. Winscape Hensley LED in-grade fixtures and Winscape Benton LED wall-mounted cylinders from Winona Lighting were used to provide light for the columns and entryway of the building.
