Strong conference line-up for euroLED 2008

June 2, 2008
EuroLED 2008 takes place this week and has a high-quality line-up of international speakers.
The fifth annual euroLED event taking place at the Ricoh Arena, Coventry from 4th-5th June, 2008, has attracted the strongest speaker line-up in its history and will highlight the very latest technology advances seen in the solid-state lighting (SSL) sector, covering both LEDs and OLEDs. During the two day conference, more than 27 technology leaders from around the world will speak on topics ranging from LED market opportunities and growth, raising funding for LED ventures, driving high power AC LEDs, through to recent advances in LED design and the realities of OLED Lighting. The conference has also attracted key speakers from the European Commission and the Irish organisation responsible for supporting energy-efficient lighting, who will outline growing Government support for eco-friendly technology solutions and their potential positive impact on the global carbon footprint. In a year when SSL technologies have become a mainstream alternative to conventional halogen and fluorescent lamp solutions, euroLED 2008 will offer a glimpse into the next twelve months of both LED and OLED technology development and how novel thermal, optical and driver technologies will provide reliable, high quality and cost effective lighting solutions. For the first time in the conference’s history, two leading Venture Capital firms from the UK and USA will talk about the opportunity available to would-be entrepreneurs seeking finance to develop their Solid-State Lighting businesses. Mark Shorrock, CEO from the Low Carbon Accelerator, an AIM-listed fund that invests in private companies who have a product, service or technology which can lead to reductions in CO2 emissions, will present on investor sentiment for SSL Opportunities. In addition, Paul Thurk from Arch Venture Partnerships, a venture capital firm with over US $1.5 Billion under management and a strong focus on SSL, will discuss how to raise funds for SSL Ventures. Top of the bill on 4th June will be a leading representative from Sustainable Energy Ireland, a department of the Irish Government, who will outline the Irish Government’s plans to ban the incandescent light bulb by the year 2009. The Irish Government made the bold announcement in December 2007, the first European Government to introduce concrete plans and legislation to do so. Geoff Archenhold, euroLED Conference Chair and advisor to the UK Government on ultra efficient lighting stated: “The conference line-up this year is by far the most impressive we have assembled to date, with influential SSL leaders addressing key topics that will define the future of LED lighting. I am confident that delegates will find the conference programme informative, interesting and vital for their lighting research and development programmes.” View the full conference line-up or contact Tahreen Kutub on [email protected] or +44(0)121 250 3505 for information about how to register.
