Power Secure International says its EfficientLights' technology will reduce the stores’ refrigerated case lighting energy use by 70%.
PowerSecure International Inc. has announced that Walgreens will purchase the company's state-of-the-art green EfficientLights LED lighting technology for refrigerated cases.

The fixtures will be installed in the majority of Walgreens' new store openings in 2009. EfficientLights says that Walgreens’ investment will reduce their refrigerated cases' lighting energy use by 70%.

The new technology also reduces ongoing maintenance costs associated with traditional fluorescent lighting, extends the life of the lighting solution a minimum of five-fold, and eliminates the disposal of fluorescent bulbs, which contain mercury.

For the stores expected to be equipped in 2009, the EfficientLights green technology will save 45 million kilowatt hours over the next 10 years, which is equivalent to removing the CO2 emissions from the electricity use of over 4,000 homes.

PowerSecure's EfficientLights technology lighting design provides a high quality of lighting, enhances consumers' shopping experience and delivers a strong return on investment due to its energy efficiency.

"We are excited about the opportunity to deliver a superior product that will generate a very real, and very 'green', return on investment for their stores. Our go-to-market strategy for our EfficientLights technology is simple: we install the lighting in real world conditions, evaluate the results, and prove our value proposition,” said Sidney Hinton, CEO of PowerSecure.
