Bulbrite announces grand prize winners for nostalgic lighting fixture competition

Oct. 21, 2013
Date Announced: 21 Oct 2013 MOONACHIE, NJ – Bulbrite has announced the top 3 grand prize winners for their recent in-store merchandising and display contest: The Lighthouse of Trenton (Trenton, MI), Living Lighting on King (Toronto, Canada) and Grand Rapids Lighting Center (Grand Rapids, MI). Expanding their family of Nostalgic lighting products, BULBRITE launched the Nostalgic Fixture Collection in-store merchandising and display contest to encourage showrooms to build a custom, eye-catching display. BULBRITE is a leading supplier of innovative, energy-efficient light source solutions and the premier educational resource for lamping technology. The top grand prize winner was the Lighthouse of Trenton located in Trenton, Michigan. Susan Wallace, showroom owner, partnered with store manager Mary Gilmore and son, Matt Wallace to create a unique and compelling in-store display featuring Bulbrite’s Nostalgic Bulb and Fixture Collections. Susan joined the contest after seeing a trend in customer inquiries and increased presence of vintage style lighting in design magazines. When creating the display Susan pulled many of the vintage elements from her own personal collection of antiques. Even though their consumer audience is very traditional, the display is compelling many to consider this new era of vintage style lighting. Since the installation, the Lighthouse of Trenton has seen an increase in the sale of Bulbrite Nostalgic Fixtures especially the Bare Pendant style. In second place was Residential Lighting’s 2013 Showroom of the Year winner Living Lighting on King located in Toronto, Ontario. Showroom owner Jodie Orange and her enthusiastic team of “lighting ninjas” created a unique window display for the collection. “Merchandising and creating new and exciting displays is one of the keys to our success at Living Lighting on King,” said Orange. The team created a lighting focal point by clustering the various fixture styles in a central location and enhancing the antique feel of the overall display by utilizing mannequins dressed from the Victorian era as a backdrop for the fixtures. “Our store is located in the old fashion district of Toronto…when creating the concept for this display, it was an easy marriage to honor the Victorian fashion era to showcase the [nostalgic] collection,” said Orange when asked what the concept was behind their in-store custom display. The entire team had a great time installing the display, even taking the time to dress up in costume and take some fun pictures before it was all said and done. Jodie had this to say about Nostalgic lighting, “Nostalgic bulbs have been such a hot trend. We have displayed them in our chandeliers allowing us to increase our average sale by as much as 100%. Bulbrite has given us so many decorative options to truly customize lighting and offer our customers a personalized touch.”Grand Rapids Lighting Center took third place with a modernized design approach to their custom Nostalgic Collection display. Surrounding a wall fireplace and home office desk, their showroom display created an “at home” feel with vintage elements including an antique typewriter, red tricycle and camera. Each of the six nostalgic fixtures were strategically placed throughout the custom display which not only created a visual impact within the showroom but also effectively merchandised the entire Nostalgic Collection. Since creating the display, customers have been inspired to create a vintage look of their own within their own home.“We saw an opportunity with the new Nostalgic Fixture Collection to educate showrooms on the value of merchandising bulbs with fixtures to make a positive impact on bulb sales. This contest is a creative approach to a practice we hope many showrooms are already using. Just like toys are never sold without batteries, lighting fixtures should never be sold without light bulbs. Whether the upsell is a unique Nostalgic bulb as it is in this case or an energy efficient LED alternative, consumers need to see them in application or they’ll never be aware of the limitless options available,” says Bulbrite President, Cathy Choi.
