National Tsing Hua University (NTHU) is a well-respected Taiwan-based university that conducts next-generation, basic research and owns an extensive portfolio of cutting-edge technology patents. Until now, NTHU – like most American universities – could not sell its patents, but that policy has changed, and a portfolio of organic light-emitting diode (OLED) technology patents has just become available for acquisition or licensing. NTHU selected IPOfferings, a leading patent broker, to exclusively represent it in the monetization of its OLED patent portfolio.
The portfolio consists of 53 total patents and patent applications: 15 granted U.S. Patents and four U.S. Patent Applications, 23 granted Taiwan Patents and one Taiwan Patent Application, four granted Chinese Patents and four Chinese Patent Applications, one granted Japanese Patent and one Japanese Patent Application, and one granted Korean Patent. The OLED technologies covered by these patents include:
-
6H-indeno quinoxalone, aminoferrocene, triptycene, diazaphenalene, aromatic and asymmetric styrene derivatives
-
Carrier generation materials
-
Boron-containing compounds
-
Hole-blocking, electronic injection, electron-transfer and conjugated polymers
According to Alec Schibanoff, vice president of IPOfferings LLC, the patent brokerage firm that represents National Tsing Hua University, “This portfolio creates an opportunity for an organic light-emitting diode manufacturer to totally leapfrog the product offerings of all of its competitors by acquiring the latest, cutting-edge OLED technologies.” He adds, “IPOfferings is incredibly honored to be selected by National Tsing Hua University to exclusively represent it in the monetization of this portfolio.”
