First Light Technologies' LED bollard is recognized in Next Generation Luminaires competition

Victoria, BC, Canada: First Light Technologies Ltd., a leading designer and manufacturer of architectural-quality, integrated solar-powered and high efficiency LED lighting products, was recognized as a winner in the 2016 Next Generation Luminaires (NGL) Design Competition for its hard-wired PLB-AC LED bollard.

The U.S. Department of Energy has partnered with the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IES) and the International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD) to organize the NGL Design Competition, which seeks to encourage technical innovation and recognize and promote excellence in the design of energy-efficient LED luminaires for commercial, industrial and institutional applications.

The PLB-AC LED bollard went through a rigorous evaluation process and we received detailed feedback from expert NGL judges. We are pleased to report that the judges were impressed with the light distribution, color characteristics and construction quality of the PLB-AC Series bollard. "Nice smooth distribution", "color rendering is good", and "sturdy construction" were all included in the individual judging comments.

As LED technology and product design have evolved, NGL requirements have become increasingly demanding. “The NGL bar is set high, and the tires get kicked often and hard,” said DOE SSL Program Manager Jim Brodrick. “So when the judges award a product, you know it was well earned.” Following the announcement, First Light’s co-founder Sean Bourquin said “At First Light, we are proud of our design capabilities and the PLB-AC already has the distinction of having the highest efficacy of any bollard listed with the Design Light Consortium, so we are particularly honored to have been selected as a winner in NGL’s highly regarded competition.”
