Unibox partners with River Island for moveable LED-lit shelving display rollout

July 12, 2016
Kontakt was developed with River Island to achieve a situation that all retailers struggle with: reconfigurable visual merchandising without the need for costly engineers/shopfitting teams. This system has huge potential, as it gives a retailer such freedom to quickly and simply reconfigure a full store display without compromising the quality of display I.e. The position and lighting. The lighting within the system is not just standard LED’s, custom LED extrusions were designed and created using custom printed circuit boards with bespoke colour temperature lenses. The entire system itself was developed and manufactured in-house with lighting production and turnaround time for the exclusive River Island launch.

River Island was already a customer of Unibox, but they approached us as they were searching for a new movable LED shelving system. With retail being such a fast paced environment; new stock arriving regularly and store layouts being constantly amended, they wanted a highly versatile solution without compromising on quality of lighting. As Unibox's long standing relationship with River Island had been supplying LED Lightboxes & Illuminated Graphic Displays to the majority of their estate throughout the UK, they were aware of the importance of intelligent LED solutions within their stores and our skills in that department.

Unibox then worked closely with the River Island VM & Shopfitting team from the very beginning of the design process to truly realise their brand vision. Throughout the Research and Development process, prototypes were created before a final concept was created.

The new system was manufactured in-house, creating new components and connectors. The system was then tested in a couple of River Islands stores and has since been rolled out, most notably in; Gateshead’s Metrocentre, their new flagship store at the Bullring and their new style concept store at the Trafford Centre, Manchester.
