NXP UBA3001 delivers maximum flash light for a camera phone
Eindhoven, The Netherlands – NXP, the newly independent semiconductor company founded by Philips, announced today its commitment to the future of environmentally friendly light sources by unveiling the NXP Solid State Lighting (SSL) IC portfolio and the first product in the new range: the NXP UBA3001, a high-efficiency camera phone LED flash driver.
The NXP UBA3001 produces the maximum flash light output at the highest efficiency from a battery operated mobile handset. The increased flash performance enhances the picture quality in poor lighting conditions to provide users with a dramatically improved visual experience.
With LEDs providing the most compact, versatile and environmentally-friendly light sources available, NXP has established a dedicated business team focused on developing high performance SSL system solutions and ICs for mobile flash, consumer electronics, automotive lighting and general lighting markets. NXP will develop SSL driver solutions, such as the NXP UBA3001, allowing manufacturers to speed the adoption of SSL and rapidly deliver lighting products with lower energy consumption, longer lifetimes, smaller form factors, increased robustness and improved intelligence.

The new NXP UBA3001 enhances camera phone picture quality in poor lighting conditions. The high efficiency – above 90% across the entire battery voltage range – driver delivers maximum flash light from the smallest footprint and with only five low value external components.
The NXP UBA3001 delivers one Ampere to a single high brightness LED and, for the first time, enables great flash performance whatever the battery charge thanks to its automatic voltage up and down-conversion. The solution has been designed specifically for demanding camera phones, offering dedicated features such as lower current during transmit mode, automatic switch-off, LED true switch-off and full control of current settings for different uses including flash, torch and “camera/video-on” indicator modes.
The NXP UBA3001 is being demonstrated at the 3GSM World Congress. This camera phone LED flash driver is also on show at Strategies in Light (San Jose) and Embedded World (Nürnberg) together with NXPs range of ready-to-use solutions for LED lighting applications.
