CAO Group Dynasty LEDs reach 100 lm/W milestone

Feb. 11, 2007
Date Announced: 11 Feb 2007 The uniquely engineered Dynasty™ series of Integrated Power LEDs from the CAO Group, Inc has taken another giant step forward with the new capability to offer 50 to 100 lumens per watt, up from the prior range of 50 to 70 lumens. The increased brightness augments the already feature-rich Dynasty series, which offers replaceable bulbs, 100% waterproof operation, integrated optics, and a continuous 360º viewing angle. The RoHS-compliant package can be panel mounted, and requires no external heat sink. “The Dynasty is a complete, highly efficient, 100 lumen solution in a single package,” says Cary Eskow, director of LightSpeed, Avnet’s specialized illumination-focused business unit, which recently announced a franchise agreement with CAO.An innovative fusion of ingenious mechanical engineering and sophisticated optical engineering produces a patented three-dimensional lead frame design (U.S. patents 6,465,961, 6,746,885 and others pending), that enables screw-in and twist-in mounting, as well as conventional surface mounting. The design also provides the optical flexibility of the 360º horizontal by 270º vertical Butterfly-Beam™ pattern. Footprint diameter is only 9 mm. The technology integrates multiple standard LED chips to create a high flux LED at a lower-than-expected cost per lumen in solid state lighting applications, over a long operating lifetime.Dynasty’s efficient electrical and optical designs, using proprietary phosphors and smaller-than-usual LED chips, result in a cool-operating design, with performance ranging from 50-100 Lumen/Watt in a typical white unit. Blue, cyan, green, yellow and red are also available. Color temperatures for white range from 5000K to 7000K. The lights are cool to the touch, and, at standard 320mA/3.5V operation, no secondary heat sink is necessary. The 3-D construction facilitates bulb exchange or replacement, especially important in LCD backlight applications where the ability to replace a single lighting element can be a significant product maintenance enhancement In general, though, the bulb replacement feature is redundant, because the expected long lifetime makes it unlikely that replacement will ever become necessary, according to Densen Cao, CAO Group’s CEO and founder.
