Date Announced: 23 May 2007 PHLATLIGHT™ TECHNOLOGY FROM LUMINUS DEVICES WINS SID’S 2007 DISPLAY COMPONENT OF THE YEAR SILVER AWARD Long Beach, Calif. – May 21, 2007 – Luminus Devices, Inc. today announced its PhlatLight™ LED has received the Society of Information Display (SID) 2007 Display Component of the Year Silver Award, the industry’s highest honor. SID, the premier international professional society exclusively devoted to the advancement of electronic-display technology, manufacturing and applications, presents the award annually to the maker of a novel component that has significantly enhanced the performance of a display. Luminus’ PhlatLight LED was awarded the Silver Award in the Display Component category.Luminus’ PhlatLight LEDs are an advanced solid state light (SSL) source based on the company’s patented photonic lattice technology, and are the only commercially available SSL sources powerful enough to illuminate microdisplay-based rear projection televisions (RPTVs). PhlatLight chipsets enable displays with brilliant image quality and more vivid color, a longer lifetime, lower power consumption, and greater reliability. Environmentally friendly, the technology also eliminates the mercury used in traditional RPTV lamps. PhlatLight LED chipsets are being mass produced, and are currently in commercial use in high-definition rear projection televisions from Samsung Electronics and NuVision, as well as in a powerful new pocket projector from LG Electronics. “Luminus has been recognized with a 2007 Display Component of the Year Award for their novel PhlatLight LED technology,” said Dick McCartney, chair of SID’s Display of the Year Award Committee. “Luminus has proven they are committed to quality and excellence in solutions that significantly enhance the performance of a display. SID is pleased to honor their hard work and accomplishments and looks forward to more innovative solutions from them in the future.”“We are honored to be chosen as a recipient of this award,” said Udi Meirav, CEO at Luminus Devices, Inc. “PhlatLight has given rise to an entirely new class of HDTVs by eliminating the arc-lamp and color wheel, and to be recognized for this accomplishment is extremely rewarding. We respect SID and all of its members a great deal, and we are honored to be in company with this year’s fellow winners.”Luminus and Global Lighting Technologies (GLT) will also demonstrate a prototype of their 52-inch edge-light backlight unit during SID 2007. The PhlatLight Edge-Light Unit (ELU) uses Luminus’ PhlatLight LEDs and GLT’s MicroLens™ light guides and is the largest edge lit backlight unit ever demonstrated.About Luminus DevicesLuminus Devices, Inc., headquartered in Woburn, Massachusetts, develops and manufactures high performance solid state light emitting devices.
