CAO Group adds brightness, environmental capabilities to Luxembrightchannel letter system

Date Announced: 06 Dec 2007 Greater brightness and greater suitability for signage applications with adverse environmental challenges are now built into CAO Group’s enhanced Luxembright™ channel letter illumination system. The new phosphor that delivers the greater brightness significantly outperforms anything else on the market in terms of lumens per dollar, as well as extending the expected lifespan of the LED by 20%. Because the system has also passed the ASTM salt fog spray test, the point of entry for environmentally challenging signage applications, CAO has extended the warranty period by 12 months. The operating temperature range is -40ºF to 140ºF (and the storage range is 9º higher), and the humidity rating is <70%. The Luxembright channel letter illumination system uses a pixel arrangement of customized LED lamps to create high intensity and uniform light beams. According to Dr. Densen Cao, the company’s CEO, this is the first LED lighting solution to rival the brightness of neon, and to provide a low voltage alternative to fluorescent lighting. The LuxemBright™’s primary characteristic is its 10 LEDs per module design (5 LEDs per pixel, 2 pixels per module). The standard version accommodates 3 modules per foot which is ideal for large channel letters, while the economy series accommodates 2 modules per foot, making it appropriate for small channel letters. CAO offers the LuxemBright™ channel letter system in white, red, yellow, green and blue colors. The typical wavelength for red LEDs is 629 nm, LED intensity is 1000 (measured with an integrating sphere after the device is stabilized), and luminous intensity per module is 10 (cd). Warranty varies with color, but now ranges from 36 months to 60 months. Sign builders will find the modules easy to install with double-sided tape on back and screw holders on the side of the modules. They can be mounted on both back and side of channel letters. The side mounting feature of the LuxemBright™ enables a channel letter depth as thin as 2 inches and can illuminate letters with a stroke of up to 18 inches wide. These mounting properties reduce installation time, while the high intensity, uniform beam lets the sign builder use fewer linear feet per channel letter, reducing the cost for parts as well. The customer emerges with a system that costs less than alternatives, yet provides long hours of operation with uniform color, superior coverage, low power consumption, low maintenance, easy installation, high reliability, water resistance, and optimum heat management.
