Exalos releases new 1520nm SLDs for fiber optic sensor, telecommunications & instrumentation applications

June 1, 2007
Date Announced: 01 Jun 2007 Schlieren, Switzerland -- EXALOS has extended its family of powerful Superluminescent Light Emitting Diodes (SLEDs) with the new 1520 nm low cost SLED line. SLEDs are semiconductor light sources that combine the spatial coherence of a laser diode with the temporal incoherence of an LED.EXALOS SLEDs at 1520 nm are especially suited for fiber optic sensor, telecommunications & instrumentation applications thanks to their high output power, large bandwidth and cost effective housing and very low ripple values. Typical values for the EXS5205-8111 are 0.4 mW optical output powers in a single mode fiber and 60 nm 3dB spectral bandwidth centered at 1520 nm. The standard product is delivered in a cost effective TOSA housing with monitor diode and FC/APC. Devices in TO-56 housings are also available. All devices are based on EXALOS proprietary design. Devices are in production and BELLCORE GR-468-CORE qualified.About EXALOSEXALOS AG, an ISO 9001:2000 certified company, is developing and selling SLEDs to the medical imaging, fiber optic gyroscope, test equipment and sensor industries. The Company has its headquarters in Schlieren located in the Greater Zurich Area in Switzerland. EXALOS has established strategic alliances with technological- and cost leadership partners, with the goal to provide customers with the optimum balance of price, time to market, performance, and size for any given specification. This approach gives EXALOS the flexibility to develop devices as solutions tailored for particular customers and markets.EXALOS SLEDs currently target specific applications in four major markets: > Optical coherence tomography for medical applications such as cornea and retina diagnostics> Fiber optic gyroscopes for applications such as avionics, aerospace and navigation > Optical channel monitors, chromatic and polarization mode dispersion, and passive components characterization in test equipment for telecom and datacom systems> Fiber optic sensors for civil structure monitoring such as bridges and oil pipelines as well as temperature, pressure, and electrical current measurements
