Sept. 14, 2007
Date Announced: 14 Sep 2007Aachen, Germany -- AIXTRON AG has received an order for two Thomas Swan Close Coupled Showerhead (CCS) reactors from South Korean company THELEDS Co. Ltd. within the second quarter. They will both be delivered in the 19x2-inch wafer configuration to THELEDS' semiconductor fab in Wonsam-Myun, Yognin-Si, South Korea. To be used for volume production of high brightness blue GaN-based LEDs, they will be installed alongside the company's other Close Coupled Showerhead reactors.Dr. SangKee Shee, Executive Vice President of THELEDS Co. Ltd., said: “THE LEDS relies exclusively on the CCS reactor of the AIXTRON group because it has proven to be an extremely reliable technology compared to all other reactor technologies. Shortly after we had acquired our first Thomas Swan CCS reactors we were able to ramp up to mass production very promptly. "We have found it very easy to transfer our processes from one system to another which is essential for fast production ramp up. In our experience, AIXTRON reactors offer excellent uptime, reproducibility, uniformity and cost-of-ownership. "Another key factor is the high standard of support we have enjoyed from AIXTRON's local Korean Service Team. During every step of the system installation, process set up and also during production they responded very quickly. In order to react to increased customer demand for high brightness LED chips we now have to expand our production capacity."
