Date Announced: 20 Apr 2010 -- Early adopters deliver prototypes in weeks with new off-the-shelf assembliesFRANKFURT, GERMANY -– Future Lighting Solutions today announced rapid worldwide adoption of its new simpleLED® light engine program, which reduces design/prototyping cycles for solid state lighting applications from as long as a year to as little as four weeks. Twelve off-the-shelf assemblies integrate circuit boards, LUXEON® Rebel LEDs, connectors and optics in different form factors, LED counts and color temperatures, eliminating months of sourcing, design and engineering work while also offering over 600 customization options for use in finished luminaires.Announced in February, the linear, circular and square light engines available through the simpleLED program have quickly attracted innovative lighting designers from North America to Europe. Early adopters include a major retail chain, a popular entertainment franchise, and lighting engineers building LED retrofits for:• A 35W MR16 downlight using a circular 6-LED light engine.• A 50W metal halide outdoor pathway light using six linear 6-LED light engines.• A 50W halogen medical task lamp using a circular 3-LED light engine.• An 18W CFL bulb in a wall sconce using 4-LED square and 3- and 6-LED linear light engines.• Halogen 50W retail display case backlights and accent lighting for a well-known retail store using 6-LED linear and 9-LED square assemblies, respectively.Other customers are using the simpleLED program to rapidly prototype new or retrofit LED luminaires for demonstration purposes, using the samples to test customer response before entering the production phase. Examples include LED street lights, 4” and 6” recessed downlights, and backlit signage boxes designed to replace fluorescent models.“The strong response to our simpleLED program reflects the demand for shorter design and prototyping cycles that can significantly accelerate time to market and cut development costs for solid state lighting applications,” said Danny Miller, Vice President - Lighting Integration for Future Lighting Solutions. “These new light engines are essential building blocks for manufacturers who want to take full advantage of LED lighting opportunities.”12 Configurations Ready to Ship; Custom in 4 WeeksThe first off-the-shelf light engines in Future’s simpleLED program are available in 12 configurations with a choice of linear, circular and square layouts and 1, 2, 3, 4, 6 or 9 white 3000K, 3500K or 4000K ANSI-binned LUXEON Rebel LEDs. Each assembly also includes Tyco Electronics connectors and 10mm, 20mm, Tri-Lens or ultra-wide Carclo optics. Applications range from recessed downlights to low bay, cove, wall wash, display case, under cabinet, desk/task and street/area lighting.Unlike light engines assembled by contract manufacturers, all products in the program offer a three-year warranty as well as UL recognition, eliminating the need for a full in-system LED component investigation to obtain UL Listed status for new luminaires built with Future’s light engines. They also offer the full benefits of the LUXEON Rebel platform, including the ability to support drive currents up to 1000mA, compliance with ANSI color binning requirements, and a minimum CRI of 80.The appropriate off-the-shelf form factor for a given application can be easily identified online by entering key attributes such as target light output in the Light Engine Builder available under the simpleLED menu on Future Lighting Solutions’ website. Custom configurations can also be specified online and shipped in four weeks.
