Phoseon Technology Selected as Finalist for 2010 TechAmerica Oregon Technology Awards

April 13, 2010
Date Announced: 13 Apr 2010 Hillsboro, OR April 13, 2010 -- After building a global leadership position developing mercury-free clean energy UV-LED solutions for an array of industrial curing processes, Phoseon Technology has been selected as a Rising Star finalist for the 2010 TechAmerica Oregon Technology Awards. The award winners will be announced May 6th in Portland. Founded in 2002, Phoseon has grown through the recession and expects to accelerate sales and job growth in 2010. This acceleration is occurring as Phoseon builds on the clean energy advantage that its products offer at a similar price point as less efficient technology. Phoseon has developed a product portfolio of clean energy UV-LED curing systems based on UV-LED technology utilizing its proprietary SLMTM (Semiconductor Light Matrix) technology that leads the world in the transition from mercury tube technology to solid state systems in many industrial applications where high intensity light – typically in the near UV spectrum - is used to dry and harden photosensitive materials. These almost “instant” UV curing and drying processes allow for accelerated production speeds, lower production costs and reduced energy usage when compared to previous curing and drying methods using heat drying or solvent evaporation. In addition to being mercury-free, Phoseon’s clean energy lamps typically offer a 50 percent energy savings to customers transitioning from traditional mercury UV lamp systems. Other benefits include longer life, high performance, lower operating costs, complete elimination of ozone production in the workplace and elimination of exposure to the more dangerous lower UV wavelengths for workers. Phoseon is increasingly reaching out to sustainability managers in large companies to generate awareness of the environmental advantages of its products and technology. Many of Phoseon’s customers such as Agfa Graphics and Stork Prints are providing print systems to their end customers that have shown evidence of these benefits. While consumers may not be familiar with industrial UV curing, they are surrounded by the resulting products. “Type on a keyboard, reach for a cereal box, use your credit card, read a magazine – all these objects have printing on them, and the print needs to be cured in order to be durable,” said Bill Cortelyou, CEO & President of Phoseon Technology. “There is significant opportunity for Phoseon to provide higher performing options for customers and to green the supply chain by making curing more energy efficient, reducing carbon emissions and eliminating mercury from a whole array of industrial processes.” When founded in 2002 Phoseon was a true pioneer in offering a mercury-free curing process. The company developed its core SLM technology and led the drive for manufacturers to see and understand the benefits of transitioning to LED technology. At that time, LED technology was not seen as a viable alternative and UV curing and drying processes were dominated by mercury arc and mercury microwave lamps. Now other companies in the UV curing systems space are following Phoseon’s lead to make that transition a reality. “We’re proud that our technology is spurring changes throughout the marketplace, and we’re proud to be recognized as a finalist in the TechAmerica Oregon Technology Awards” Cortelyou said. “We’ll continue to drive the market by continuing to be the leader in technology innovation and product quality and value.” Phoseon’s headquarters in Hillsboro, OR is the global center of Phoseon’s engineering, manufacturing and other corporate functions and support direct sales offices based in the UK, USA and Hong Kong as well as significant indirect sales organizations in many countries in Asia and Europe – most significantly in Japan, Germany and Korea. While the Phoseon marketplace is truly global the company is strongly rooted in Oregon and most of the company founders and current leaders are veterans of Oregon semiconductor and high technology sectors.
