Lighting Science Group lights up Mexican community with street light technology

July 15, 2010
Date Announced: 15 Jul 2010 Satellite Beach, Florida, and Mexico City, Mexico – Art meets science with Lighting Science Group’s streamline cast, ultra-efficient LED street lights that now grace the streets of Vista Verde Country Club in Tehuacán, Puebla, Mexico. The installed PROLIFIC series LED street lights bring into balance the need to responsibly illuminate the community’s roadways while reducing energy consumption and lowering maintenance costs. The successful installation is being jointly announced by Lighting Science Group and BHP Energy México S. de R.L. de C.V., Lighting Science Group’s exclusive representative in Mexico.“With rising energy costs, communities all around Mexico and the world are looking for ways save energy—the installation of Lighting Science PROLIFIC streetlights at Vista Verde is a perfect example of how buying green can save communities money while improving safety and security,” said Angel Fernández, one of the principals of the Vista Verde Country Club.Compared with traditional HID street lights, the PROLIFIC series street lights are at least 50% more efficient, provides a more uniform light distribution, increases light levels, and will save the residents of Vista Verde Country Club thousands of dollars in energy and maintenance cost over the life of the fixtures. “We invited BHP Energy México, our country’s leading experts in energy efficient solutions, to guide our selection of lighting for our new residential golf club community,” said Constantino Ramón, Manager of Vista Verde Country Club. “We wanted a sustainable lighting system to complement our eco-friendly project, but with so much confusion in the LED marketplace, we needed independent professionals to guide us. When BHP Energy México demonstrated the Lighting Science PROLIFIC LED fixture, we knew immediately that it was the best choice for this prestigious development,” Ramon added. To ensure performance and reliability, the PROLIFIC series was tested under the rigorous LM-79 process by an independent laboratory approved by the U.S. Department of Energy’s CALiPER program. These testing results show that the PROLIFIC street lights outperform competing products on the market. Furthermore, the maintenance-friendly PROLIFIC LED technology eliminates costly re-lamping and re-ballasting of HID street lights and direct line wiring is used in place of starters or capacitors to further reduce traditional maintenance issues.“With the PROLIFIC series, communities and cities now have the freedom to switch to an environmentally friendly, affordable and energy efficient street light that has better lighting quality than traditional HID lights,” said Zach Gibler, Chief Executive Officer of Lighting Science Group. “I would like to thank BHP Energy México S. de R.L. de C.V. for introducing our cutting edge products into Mexico, an important lighting market for the company.” About BHP Energy México BHP Energy México S. de R.L. de C.V., an affiliate of New York based BHB Energy LLC, is an independent energy services company and project developer which specializes in energy efficient lighting solutions for its client base throughout Mexico.
