Abacus Lighting earns ‘Investors in People 10 Year Award’

Date Announced: 12 Jul 2010 Abacus Lighting has been presented with a 10 Year Award from Investors in People (IIP) UK in recognition of the company’s continuous attainment of the Investors in People standard.Stephen Wray, Management Systems and Training Manager at Abacus, was responsible for facilitating the reaccreditation process. He said: “This is a fantastic achievement demonstrating Abacus’s ongoing dedication to people and a commitment to continuous business improvement. The company now joins a select but growing group of over 3000 organisations of all sizes and sectors in the UK, who have achieved this significant milestone.” Elly Green, who assessed Abacus on behalf of IIP, said: “The evidence from the latest assessment shows that a very positive culture has been established at Abacus over many years which underpins all the good practice to be found in the company. Employees expressed very consistent views throughout their discussions about the encouraging atmosphere, the good working environment, strong working relationships, and good opportunities to gain additional skills and expertise needed to progress through the company. “Abacus has a long history of meeting the requirements of Investors in People, continues to do so very well, and certainly exceeds them in most areas now. I am very happy to support continuing recognition for Abacus and congratulate them on a very successful outcome.” Stephen added: “Our IIP recognition has been, and continues to be, a remarkable journey. It is an acknowledgement that our people make the difference and we are proud of their achievement.”Abacus’s lighting installations can be seen around the world. Projects in the UK include Trent Bridge Cricket Ground, Lord’s and The Oval and Abacus’ patented based hinged masts can be seen on nearly every Network Rail station across the country. Abacus also has strong markets in the Middle and Far East. Its largest projects to date are the lighting of Nad al Sheeba racecourse in Dubai and the Chek Lap Kok Airport on a man-made island off Hong Kong. Abacus has also supplied masts and floodlighting to the Al Shamal sports stadium in Qatar and the Emirates Dubai Rugby Sevens stadium redevelopment.
