Downtown Oxford to feature innovative LED lighting from Relume Technologies

Date Announced: 15 Jul 2010 Oxford, Mich. – Relume Technologies, a leading manufacturer of light-emitting diode (LED) products and smart grid control systems for outdoor lighting applications, was chosen by the Oxford Downtown Development Authority (DDA) and the Village of Oxford to convert 83 existing streetlights in its historic downtown to Relume’s energy efficient, cost effective LED globe fixtures.The Oxford DDA and the Village of Oxford are recipients of the Michigan Economic Development Corporation’s (MEDC) Downtown Urban Revitalization Grant, which provides support to Michigan communities for high-priority urban revitalization projects. The grant will partially fund the DDA district’s large-scale LED streetlight project, which is scheduled to be completed this fall. “Relume is very excited to partner with the Oxford DDA and the Village of Oxford to help showcase the community as a leader in energy efficient LED lighting systems,” said Michael McClear, CEO for Relume Technologies. “The LED streetlight project supports Oxford’s long-term environmental and sustainability plans, expecting to save $8,000 per year in energy and maintenance costs, as well as cut greenhouse emissions by 1.3 million pounds of CO2 over the life of the project.”Relume’s LED outdoor lights use 40 percent of the electricity of conventional streetlights and last up to six times longer. The substantial savings in reduced energy and maintenance costs results in an average payback on investment of less than four years.
