July 15, 2010
Date Announced: 15 Jul 2010 Oxford, Mich. – Relume Technologies, a leading manufacturer of light-emitting diode (LED) products and smart grid control systems for outdoor lighting applications, was chosen by the Oxford Downtown Development Authority (DDA) and the Village of Oxford to convert 83 existing streetlights in its historic downtown to Relume’s energy efficient, cost effective LED globe fixtures. The Oxford DDA and the Village of Oxford are recipients of the Michigan Economic Development Corporation’s (MEDC) Downtown Urban Revitalization Grant, which provides support to Michigan communities for high-priority urban revitalization projects. The grant will partially fund the DDA district’s large-scale LED streetlight project, which is scheduled to be completed this fall. “Relume is very excited to partner with the Oxford DDA and the Village of Oxford to help showcase the community as a leader in energy efficient LED lighting systems,” said Michael McClear, CEO for Relume Technologies. “The LED streetlight project supports Oxford’s long-term environmental and sustainability plans, expecting to save $8,000 per year in energy and maintenance costs, as well as cut greenhouse emissions by 1.3 million pounds of CO2 over the life of the project.”Relume’s LED outdoor lights use 40 percent of the electricity of conventional streetlights and last up to six times longer. The substantial savings in reduced energy and maintenance costs results in an average payback on investment of less than four years. In addition, the bright white LEDs provide a clear, crisp daylight look for enhanced visibility and safety.“The Oxford DDA and the Village of Oxford are very excited to be working with Relume Technologies in leading the way to bring the latest technology in LED lighting to our downtown,” said Madonna Van Fossen, executive director, Oxford DDA. “The radio control LED lighting will be more efficient and the energy savings substantial at a time when saving funds is a top priority. The new, natural warm-color lighting will enhance the attractiveness of downtown and accent Oxford’s historic charm.”In addition to the Oxford DDA district, Relume has implemented LED conversion projects in a number of Michigan cities, including Ann Arbor, Battle Creek, Benton Harbor and Pontiac, as well as additional cities across North America, such as Toronto, Arlington, Va. and Canton, Ohio.About Relume TechnologiesRelume Technologies is a Michigan-based manufacturer of highly efficient, environmentally friendly, and cost effective LED lighting products and control systems with sales outlets in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, Europe and the Middle East.
