Oct. 1, 2010
Date Announced: 01 Oct 2010 Greater Philadelphia, PA - The Rose Group, Newtown, Pennsylvania, recently chose LED Savings Solutions to install a complete retrofit of one of their 59 Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill & Bar restaurants by replacing traditional incandescent and fluorescent bulbs with new light emitting diode (LED) lighting. The Rose Group owns and operates 63 restaurants, including four Corner Bakery Cafes, and employs over 5,000 people in Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.According to LED Savings Solutions’ Lighting Audit and Savings Report for the single Applebee’s restaurant the retrofit will save more than $150,000 in energy costs and have a significant environmental impact by eliminating more than 1.8 million pounds of CO2 emissions—the equivalent of taking 10 mid-size SUVs or cars off the road each year for more than 10 years.“We’re honored to be selected by The Rose Group to retrofit this first Applebee’s restaurant in Newtown,” says Charlie Szoradi, founder and president of LED Savings Solutions. “Their management team’s success over the past 25 years proves they are way ahead of the wave in restaurant concept, design and operations. This move to sustainable, ultra-energy-efficient LED lighting exemplifies their forward-thinking approach to environmental stewardship and is an excellent model for the entire nationalcategory of casual dining family restaurants.”Jeff Warden, CEO and President of the Rose Group, says, “We’re thrilled to work with LED Savings Solutions to help our restaurants evolve from traditional energy-intensive lighting to more sustainable LED lighting that will provide the same sort of dining comfort, be better for our shared environment, and save on energy costs of the restaurant for many years to come. It’s the kind of simple, long-term beneficial change our industry needs.”According to Szoradi, “Our engineers and account managers worked closely with The Rose Group and their restaurant management team to determine the best use of the LEDs, the correct type of lamps, and to match the right color and dimming requirements. We are extremely impressed by their commitment to their customers and the neighborhoods they serve.”Bill Reed, general manager of the Applebee’s in Newtown, says he and his staff really like the new LED lighting. “LSS helped us find just the right light tone for a comfortable dining experience. The bulbs are always very cool, silent, and last ten times longer than other types of bulbs. We’re looking forward to seeing the savings with them.”Szoradi says his company’s Savings Report shows if the entire national Applebee’s chain of more than 2,000 units followed The Rose Group’s lead the impact would make international headlines. “The total savings would be $1.5 million per month and $18 million per year with the new LED lighting. This would bring the total to over $300 million in energy savings over the life of the LEDs. The environmental impact would be eliminating CO2 emissions by over 3.6 billion pounds—that equates to taking 20,000 mid-size SUVs or cars off of the road each year for the next decade.”About The Rose GroupThe Rose Group, headquartered in Newtown, PA, is the 34th largest restaurant franchise company in the United States.
