Cold Spring, NY, specifies LEDs America T8s

Dec. 21, 2010
Date Announced: 21 Dec 2010 Cold Spring, NY — The Village Trustees voted unanimously on August 10, 2010 to use a New York State grant to fund the replacement of lighting in the Village’s water treatment facility. After investigating several technologies, the Trustees recently chose to replace the electricity-wasting metal halide lamps currently installed in the facility with new, patented energy-efficient LED lighting from LEDS America®, Inc. The Trustees estimate they will see a substantial reduction in energy use, which will translate into the ability to save tax dollars. Light-emitting diodes, commonly known as LEDs, save energy by burning only a small fraction of the electricity used by other types of lamps. They also save more energy because they light up immediately. “The old lights took 15 minutes to warm up, so village workers tended to leave them on,” according to Michael Gibbons, Product Operations Manager at MKTworks, Inc. “The new LED-O® lamps come on instantly, so there is no reason to keep them on.”The new LED-O® lamps are manufactured and supplied by LEDS America®, Inc., which is based in Jupiter, Florida, but is opening a new facility in the Hudson Valley at Tech City, a high-tech manufacturing center located in Kingston. MKTworks, headquartered in Cold Spring, is the manufacturer’s representative for LEDS America®, Inc. in this region. “LED-O® lamps have recently been tested by the international testing organization, Intertek. LED-O® received Intertek’s ETL Listed Mark that is proof of compliance to North American safety standards,” states LEDS America founder and president, Joel Westermark.“The U.S. Department of Energy has also tested and rated LED-O® lamps on LM-79 and LM-80, the approved methods to measure LEDs to determine their levels of brightness, color accuracy and electrical efficiency. We supplied those results to the Village Trustees,” Westermark added. “With our patented constant-current-driver and a third-party warranty, LED-O® lamps provide a dependable solution where other manufacturers do not. The Village of Cold Spring has demonstrated its foresight and initiative by showing the way for other municipalities. LED lighting is the wave of the future; Cold Spring and LEDS America® are leading the way.”By reducing the amount of power used by lights, villages and towns can greatly cut their energy expenses. LED-O® lights put out a bright white light while using less than 15 watts for each lamp compared to 28 watts for the newest low-wattage fluorescent lamps. The LED-O® lamps do not use energy-consuming ballasts. Compared to fluorescent lamps, LED-O® lights last 50,000 hours, so they require fewer replacements and installation labor expenses. LED-O® lamps eliminate the 60-cycle flicker known to aggravate some medical conditions, and their color and brightness do not fade over time. “Though LED-O® lamps cost more initially than conventional lighting, users can anticipate payback in less than two years and permanent savings after that,” Westermark concluded. As well as replacing metal halide lights, LED-O® lamps also replace standard office fluorescent lamps, T8’s. LED-O® lamps come with a five-year warranty, contain no mercury and are encased in shatter-resistant plastic.About MKTworks, Inc.MKTworks, Inc., also known as Marketing Works, is a full-service strategic marketing and advertising agency.
