Philips LED fixture supplants fluorescent cove lights

Jan. 20, 2010
Date Announced: 20 Jan 2010 Philips Electronics today unveiled eW® Cove MX Powercore, a milestone in LED lighting that represents the industry's first viable replacement for high-output fluorescent cove lights. Developed by Philips Color Kinetics, eW Cove MX Powercore delivers unmatched light output for LED cove lighting fixtures. This high-performance fixture meets or exceeds the performance of T5HO or 2-lamp T8 fluorescent strip lights. eW Cove MX Powercore is the first white-light, line-voltage LED fixture to integrate auto-switching technology. Auto-switching automatically detects and adjusts to line voltages of 100, 120, 220 - 240, and 277 VAC. This allows for a simplified installation, operation in a variety of locations, while also eliminating miswiring. Suitable for a wide range of applications, this versatile fixture can be used for accent lighting and indirect general illumination, as well as a full range of wall and ceiling cove applications. Additional eW Cove MX Powercore features include: • Superior binning - Advances to Philips proprietary Optibin® binning algorithm exceed American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Chromaticity Standard C78.377A for color consistency and uniformity, effectively eliminating hue variation across LED sources, fixtures, and manufacturing runs. eW Cove MX Powercore is two times more precise than the standard set forth by ANSI. • Deep dimming - Enhanced DIMand® technology offers dimming down to 1%. eW Cove MX Powercore is compatible with many electronic low voltage (ELV) dimmers. • Improved total cost of ownership - With an efficacy of 52.7 lumens per watt, long useful life, low energy consumption and low maintenance requirements, eW Cove MX Powercore offers a lower total cost of ownership than dimmable fluorescent linear sources used for typical cove applications.• ENERGY STAR listed - By meeting the strict efficiency and performance criteria set forth by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy, eW Cove MX Powercore (110° x 110° beam angle, 3000 and 3500 K only) has earned the ENERGY STAR.• Title 24 certification - Exceeding the efficacy target of 40 lumens per watt for high efficacy luminaires, eW Cove MX Powercore has received Title 24 certification from the California Energy Commission.eW Cove MX Powercore delivers more than 600 lumens per foot and is available in four color temperatures, ranging from a warm 2700 K to a cool 4000 K, four solid colors (Blue, Green, Amber, Red), and a wide beam angle. Additional beam angles (medium and narrow) will be available in the second quarter of 2010.About Philips Color Kinetics Philips Color Kinetics transforms environments through dynamic and more efficient uses of light.
