Diodes' LED driver reduces size and cost of lighting products

Jan. 20, 2010
Date Announced: 20 Jan 2010 Dallas, Texas - January 19, 2009 --- Diodes Incorporated has introduceda 1 Amp rated linear mode constant current LED driver specificallydesigned to reduce the size and cost of a range of general illuminationproducts, including flashlights and lighting in emergency, garden, andpoolside applications.Packaged in an optimized small footprint, low profile DFN package, thehighly integrated DLD101 LED driver provides designers with significantboard space savings, with the package's high thermal efficiency assuringhigher power dissipation than comparable SOT23 ICs.By integrating a unique 'base accessible pre-biased transistor', DLD101has been able to incorporate biasing resistors on chip, meaning LEDcurrent setting is now via a single external resistor, without the needfor an additional boost transistor. For the pass element, a high draincurrent 60V N-channel MOSFET has been used instead of a bipolartransistor to reduce overall bias current. As well as reducing the PCB size and external component count ofalternative LED driver solutions, the DLD101 also completely removes theEMI signature associated with switching regulator solutions. The DLD101 1A linear mode constant current LED driver is priced at $0.25each in quantities of 10K.
