Seoul Semiconductor takes third place in market share of white LEDs

Date Announced: 04 Aug 2010 Seoul Semiconductor, a leading global manufacturer of LEDs, rose to third place in market share of white LEDs last month, a report by The Nikkei Group in Japan revealed. According to the report, Seoul Semiconductor has risen to 5.7% of the world’s white LED market, which is led by Nichia of Japan (32.0%) and OSRAM Optodevice of Germany (7.9%).Last year, Seoul Semiconductor’s market share in this fast-growing sector was 2.4%. Nichia’s market share fell 4.5% from last year, the report said, and OSRAM Optodevice dipped 1.1% from a year ago.Seoul Semiconductor, which has operations in North America, took the 4th place in the total world LED market, according to the last year’s “LED Market Report” by IMS Research and a July report by Strategies Unlimited. The company is projected to overtake its nearest competitor for 3rd place sometime this year. “The company’s LED sales have uniformly increased in all the areas including LED TV, cellular phones, and automobiles.
