Philips Lumileds adds latest high-capacity Thomas Swan CRIUS

Date Announced: 24 Jul 2006 Aachen, Germany – AIXTRON AG has secured another MOCVD tool sale to Philips Lumileds Lighting Company. The latest purchase order is for a Thomas Swan CRIUS system which has a capacity of 30x2 inch wafers per run. This is the latest step in the Philips Lumileds-AIXTRON four-year epitaxial deposition systems supply contract.Earlier purchases have included a significant number of AIXTRON Planetary Reactor® systems which are used for the mass production of Philips Lumileds’ LED products. The new CRIUS system will be installed at Philips Lumileds' state-of-the-art semiconductor facility in San Jose, California, USA. For several years now, AIXTRON and Philips Lumileds have fostered a close working partnership. This has provided a stable platform essential for the rapid expansion of LED manufacturing in step with the significant growth of the LED marketplace. The new Thomas Swan CRIUS 30x2 inch wafer MOCVD reactor ordered by Philips Lumileds is reliable with high throughput, excellent uniformity and low cost of ownership. All factors which will ensure success in the GaN LED market.The CRIUS design is based on AIXTRON’s new ‘Integrated Concept’ (IC) which has been developed using advanced in house modeling techniques and verified in AIXTRON's application laboratory. The ‘Integrated Concept’ minimizes compatibility risks through the modular re-design of many components of the reactor system including the reactor cell itself.
