Lighting Sciences Low Bay LED fixtures installed in factory
Lighting Science Group, Triple A Containers and Amtech Lighting Services Announce First Factory Installation of Optimized Digital Lighting(TM) Fixtures
DALLAS & CERRITOS, Calif. -- In a joint release today, Lighting Science Group Corporation (OTCBB:LSGP - News), Triple A Containers, Inc. and Amtech Lighting Services, an ABM Industries Incorporated (NYSE:ABM - News) subsidiary, announced the installation of Lighting Science's proprietary Low Bay lighting fixtures in Triple A's manufacturing facility in Cerritos, California.
The newly installed LED lighting replaces existing incandescent and fluorescent fixtures over a key manufacturing line in the factory.
Triple A is a leading manufacturer of corrugated containers and displays. Lighting Science's ODL® Low Bay lighting fixtures are highly energy efficient and contain none of the hazardous material including mercury or gases frequently found in fluorescent and other lighting products.
As such, Triple A is enthusiastic about the environmental benefits of Lighting Science's advanced lighting solutions. Triple A Containers was honored on May 4th by the City of Cerritos as the only factory in Cerritos to employ total recyclability, a manufacturing method known as "Zero Waste to Landfill." This is a process in which the totality of waste is recycled for other uses, and no excess is placed in landfills.
By replacing its lighting with the ODL® Low Bay fixtures, the Cerritos plant now substantially adds to its energy efficiency. Triple A expects to save many kilowatt hours per year, reducing its lighting costs.
"This is a major step toward our becoming one of the first truly 'green' factories in California," said Brad McCroskey, owner and chief executive officer at Triple A. "In addition to greatly reducing our energy consumption, lowering both our energy and labor costs related to lighting, and solving a fluorescent light disposal problem, the Lighting Science Low Bay lights improve our manufacturing process in a number of ways. They provide high quality light, better process visibility and eliminate destructive ultraviolet (UV) emissions that impair our total productivity and product quality. We also welcome the great reduction in heat enabled by this new lighting source."
The Lighting Science Low Bay fixture is based on the Company's proprietary Optimized Digital Lighting(TM) (ODL®) technology, which is employed in a number of its products.
Lighting Science's Low Bay fixtures consume approximately 75 watts and produce minimal heat. Additionally, the Low Bay lights last 50,000 hours - or, for Triple A on a 12-hour per day operating basis, ten years - which is approximately 300% to 500% longer than the incumbent lighting technologies. In addition to substantial energy savings, the lights virtually eliminate the high ongoing maintenance and replacement equipment costs of the incumbent lighting. Lighting Science's "solid state" ODL® lighting solutions are environmentally friendly, not only consuming much less energy and generating minimal heat, but also eliminating the harmful gases used by some types of conventional lighting that require specialized disposal procedures.
Triple A's Brad McCroskey, "We are very excited to have installed this advanced lighting solution. It is definitely a big step forward in energy conservation and environmental protection."
According to Steven Zaccagnini, President of Amtech, "Triple A is an important leader in environmental responsibility. We are pleased to be involved in this project and to demonstrate our own commitment to better, safer and cleaner lighting."
Lighting Science Chairman and CEO Ron Lusk stated, "We are confident that Triple A will recognize considerable savings, and are particularly pleased to be partnering in this project with industry leader Amtech. We are also pleased to note that the majority of the lights being replaced are fluorescent, demonstrating that our ODL® lighting is competitive with fluorescent lighting technology."
