TCTech granted patent on wet coil technology

Feb. 20, 2009
Date Announced: 20 Feb 2009 Stockholm, Sweden -- TCTech, the leading global supplier of intelligent plastic nanostructures, today announces that the company has been granted a patent for its Wet Coil technology by the European Patent Office. The patent describes an improved device and method for injection moulding and pressing, but can also be used for other thermal cyclic techniques. The moulding device comprises an inductive coil for active heating, with a plurality of windings, which partly is placed in a cooling duct groove close to the surface of the mould or embossing tool. This enables extremely fast cycle times with less clamping force for low birefrengence, along with an efficiently and even distribution of both heating and cooling. The patent could be used for producing a broad variety of products. In general, devices for injection moulding using the patent are suitable for producing thin structures, such as optical information carriers such as CDs, DVDs and Blu-Ray Discs. Another area is thermal pressing of light guide plates, used e.g. to backlight LCDs in laptop computers. This patent (#EP1800828), which is valid for 20 years, is the first in a family of about ten patents that TCTech expects will be granted to the company in the near future.
