TIM Consultants unveils two thermal materials for LED market

Date Announced: 21 Oct 2009 In concurrence with the LEDs 2009 tradeshow in San Diego, TIM Consultants announces the availability of two high performance thermal greases. The original thermal grease, Matrix (formerly TC Grease 0098) is designed for applications where the bond line (the distance between the heat producing device and the heat sink) is around 4 mils or greater (100 microns +).The latest grease, Quantum, is for applications where the bond line is thin (less than 4 mils (100 microns). Both greases are designed for the extreme conditions that LED’s face. When asked for comment, a leading producer of LED’s in the central Texas region said, “The thermal engineers at TIM Consultants helped us by not only in giving us a quality product for our LED system, but also gave us invaluable advice on how to tackle our thermal issues. As a result, we were able to quickly pinpoint the location of the thermal bottlenecks which allowed us to quickly mitigate thermal issues and release our product on time. ” Record Rate of Customer Deployments:Many large tier one customers have already benefited from these greases. (Aavid Thermalloy), an international manufacturer of heat sinks expressed the high performance of Quantum in their latest round of testing. “Our thermal resistance tests show that the grease thermal impedance is 0.083 to 0.089 C-cm^2/W and that the bond line thickness is less than 20 microns.” wrote Sukvinder Kang, “Our standard grease … has a bond line thickness of ~50 microns and a thermal impedance of 0.11 to 0.12 C-cm^2/W.
