David Cameron sees the light with PhotonStar LED

June 7, 2009
Date Announced: 07 Jun 2009 PhotonStar LED, the UK-based performance eco-lighting designer and manufacturer, is celebrating two high-profile recognitions for its luminaires. The Rt Hon David Cameron, MP, Leader of the Opposition, met PhotonStar’s Fennella Frost at the Mount Wellington Mine, Cornwall. The meeting was part of Mr Cameron’s plans to meet innovative, low carbon UK businesses who manufacture in the UK. The Conservative Party has recently launched a policy document – “Moving Britain into a Low Carbon Economy”.“My discussion with Mr. Cameron was about the environmental credentials of PhotonStar’s luminaries – how they offer an 80% saving over halogen and 40% over CFLs and are mercury free and recyclable,” says Frost. “He seemed genuinely impressed with how bright the lights were and how cool to the touch – and therefore safer – they are. I also discussed our innovations and how PhotonStar, as a UK manufacturer, is creating high-quality, green collar jobs in the UK.”The second important recognition for PhotonStar – based in Southampton - is that the company has been nominated as a finalist in the 2009 Building (BEX) Innovation Competition. The Minister for Trade and Investment, Lord Davies of Abersoch, announced that the five finalists represent the most innovative UK firms in construction and infrastructure. Other finalists are the Camden Group of Antrim, Northern Ireland; Nu-Phalt of Rugby, Warwickshire; Primace Associates of Cirencester, Gloucestershire; and Screedrail Solutions of Stone, Staffordshire. All shortlisted firms have won the opportunity to showcase their products and services to business leaders and decision makers from around the world at Bex 2009 – one of the world’s biggest construction events. The show is held in Hamburg from 8-10 June and the overall winner will be announced at the event. This nomination comes soon after PhotonStar’s Test Valley Business award for Innovation and Technology.“The increasing high-profile of PhotonStar acknowledges the ground breaking technological developments, innovative flair and commercial success that PhotonStar LED has achieved since its inception in 2007,” adds FrostPhotonStar has recently launched its SmartWhite Intelligent Luminaires. The fittings have a unique combination of tuneable colour (3000k-10000k), high efficiency of 56 luminaire lumens/circuit watt, excellent colour quality with a CRI in excess of 90-95. The luminaires have a lifetime in excess of 80,000 hours. With patented LED ChromaWhite technology to emulate natural daylight cycles, the luminaires can be tuned to emit a range of colours across the natural daylight spectrum, controlled using an iPhone, building control system or wifi. This can enhance wellbeing, sleep, mood, efficiency and alertness and has the potential to bring many health benefits. SmartWhite fittings can also be tuned to emulate tungsten, halogen, metal halide and CFL without the radiated heat or UV normally associated with this lighting.
