Future Lighting Solutions introduces wireless control reference design based on Freescale technology

June 15, 2009
Date Announced: 15 Jun 2009 Press Release June 3, 2009 Jointly Developed with Freescale Semiconductor to Simplify Wireless Control Development for Intelligent Lighting Installations & Other Wireless Systems MEXICO CITY, MEXICO – Future Lighting Solutions has announced the availability of a wireless control reference design for rapid development of wireless control applications in any industry, including wireless color mixing and light dimming for solid-state lighting applications. Jointly developed with Freescale Semiconductor, the reference design utilizes Freescale components and IEEE 802.15.4 protocols to provide highly reliable, long-range, low-power wireless connectivity. “Until now, most intelligent lighting controls have been wired with protocols such as DMX-512 and DALI. Wireless solutions simplify the installation process,” said Patrick Durand, Worldwide Technical Director, Future Lighting Solutions. “We developed our reference design in conjunction with Freescale to help fixture manufacturers and wireless control engineers shorten the design cycle for remote control of color-changing LED projects, but it can be used for wireless controls of any kind, including home automation, building automation and consumer electronics.” The Future reference design kit jointly developed with Freescale consists of transceiver, controller and slave boards incorporating three key Freescale components: • MC13213 System in Package (SIP), which integrates a low-power 2.4 GHz radio frequency transceiver and an 8-bit microcontroller in a compact 9x9mm LGA package that can drive wireless sensing and control applications using the Simple MAC, IEEE 802.15.4 Compliant MAC or ZigBee™ protocols. • MPR031 and MPR032 low-power capacitive touch sensor controllers, which offer high sensitivity and a specialized feature set, such as a settable capacitance range, that enables use for a wide range of applications. • MC34673, a cost-effective fully integrated battery charger for Li-Ion or Li-Polymer batteries. “Ongoing advances in wireless technology are enabling new applications in nearly every industrial and consumer market. The challenge in many cases is to get to market quickly and cost-effectively,” said German Hernandez, Director of Sales, Freescale Latin America. “This wireless control reference design expedites development, cuts costs and reduces risk while also allowing developers to take full advantage of the newest relevant Freescale semiconductors to achieve maximum performance in minimum space.” The Future wireless control reference jointly developed with Freescale is available immediately in small quantities. www.FutureLightingSolutions.comAbout Future Lighting Solutions Future Lighting Solutions is a leading provider of LED lighting components and solution support for lighting designers and OEMs interested in taking advantage of solid state lighting technology.
