Lumenova and Jenoptik enter into collaboration

Sept. 15, 2009
Date Announced: 15 Sep 2009 Esslingen/Triptis -- Lumenova GmbH, Esslingen, a PSI Group company and JENOPTIK Polymer Systems GmbH, Triptis, part of the Jenoptik Optical Systems division, have concluded a wide-ranging strategic alliance in the area of LED lighting. The aim of the collaboration is to achieve a quick entry into the strong growth market of LED lighting in public spaces and in their commercial use as well as the development of new areas of application such as for example tunnel lighting or lighting for production halls. The aim of the two companies is to become joint leaders in these segments in terms of costs and technology.Lumenova GmbH develops and supplies high-tech LED systems for use in general lighting as well as for special applications. Jenoptik is one of the leading manufacturers of optical, optomechanical and optoelectronic systems and components and has accumulated extensive know-how in mass production where very high standards of quality are demanded. The long-term cooperation agreement was concluded recently and covers the technical collaboration in the further development of LED lighting technology based on the "Lightengine" developed by Lumenova, the development of new reflector optics for a range of applications as well as on the further enhancing of the optical quality. About the PSI GroupThe PSI Group develops, manufactures and supplies innovative lighting systems based on light emitting diodes (LEDs). One area of focus is on street and outdoor lighting. Lumenova, part of the PSI Group, supplies so-called "Lightengines" to the specifications of manufacturers of street lighting as well as to its affiliated company 2K Moxa Lighting. An LED street light offers significant advantages for clients: it offers savings in electricity in the double figure percentage range, is virtually maintenance free and consequently provides for a marked reduction in operating costs. The development of the innovative light engines for the purpose of providing lighting for highways, squares, pedestrian routes, cycle routes etc. is protected by patent applications. The LED light source, light distribution optics as well as the electronics are integrated within a system module. The PSI Group is a young technology company that resulted from a management buy-out from the former Panasonic fluorescent tube plant in Esslingen am Neckar. The extensive know-how acquired in manufacturing technology and electronic systems forms the basis for the development of extremely high-quality innovative products designed to provide long-term benefits to clients. About the Jenoptik GroupAs a comprehensive optoelectronics group Jenoptik divides its activities into the five divisions, Lasers & Material Processing, Optical Systems, Industrial Metrology, Traffic Solutions and Defense & Civil Systems. With its Optical Systems division Jenoptik is one of the few manufacturers worldwide producing precision optics designed to meet the highest quality standards. The division is a development and production partner for optical, micro-optical and optical coating components, optomechanical and optoelectronic assemblies, modules and systems - made of glass, crystal as well as plastic. As a manufacturer of optical, optomechanical and optoelectronic components and systems Jenoptik Polymer Systems possess expertise in all the key stages of the value-added chain. Optical and product design form the basis for subsystems comprising polymers or glass optics. The manufacture of polymer-based components in a very wide range of replication technologies is based on a solid foundation made up of its own expertise in tool design, mold construction and surface technology, as well as assembly and packaging technology and mounting. Jenoptik possesses specialist know-how in mass production where the standards of quality required are very high. Over the last ten years it has manufactured, amongst other things, more than 100 million optoelectronic modules and components for medical technology applications.
