Cool with LED

Sept. 15, 2009
Date Announced: 15 Sep 2009 Leeds-based Harvard Engineering plc, the country’s leading designer and manufacturer of lighting ballasts, is pleased to announce the launch of a new Cool-LED switchable LED driver. Part of the CoolPower range, it is the first of a series of LED products that the company plans to integrate into its already extensive product portfolio.Cool-LED drivers provide a high performance solution for powering high-brightness LEDs from a mains supply. The high efficiency design ensures cool operation and long life, whilst the compact enclosure is available with screw-less cable clamps for fast assembly or an integral version. The product is aimed at the professional lighting sector. The well regulated output current will typically power a series string of between 3 and 12 LEDs, with a 1w to 3w rating up to a combined voltage of 48V. Current level can be selected during installation and there are versions which can be switched between current levels via Presence Detectors or an external switch. The Class II driver delivers up to 33W of power (string of 3-12 LEDs), with surge protection up to 4kV. The CoolPower range signifies yet another breakthrough from Harvard Engineering, pressing the importance of introducing environmentally friendly leading-edge solutions.Michael McDonnell, Harvard Engineering’s commercial director said: “We continually look to improve ballast technology, particularly with a view to enhancing energy efficiency. We believe that this range will provide a very attractive solution and will be hugely popular within all lighting sectors.”
