The competition encourages manufacturers to develop innovative luminaires that are energy-efficient and provide high lighting quality and consistency, glare control, lumen maintenance, and luminaire appearance needed to meet specification lighting requirements. Recognition by NGL means that the judges – most of whom are lighting designers and specifiers – consider the product to be truly specifiable. To enhance the overall competition, NGL began evaluating indoor and outdoor products separately in 2012. This enables greater refinement of the performance criteria and the composition of the judging panel for each specific category. The outdoor competition will be launched this spring.
